Walking is a second nature task we perform in our daily lives. There are many wonderful benefits of walking that can get you in shape or simply improve your overall health. Has your doctor advised you to exercise more but you can not find the free time? Like many people, you may not want to take out a second mortgage for a gym membership. Walking will not cost you any of your hard earned money and you have to sacrifice minimal time to benefit from walking.

The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity, five days a week to improve overall Cardiovascular Health. For you to improve your Cardiovascular health you would have to participate in moderate aerobic activity for 150 minutes a week. That seems like a lot of time exercising! However, if you spend that time walking the commitment becomes a breeze.

In order to benefit from walking you do have to walk at a moderate brisk pace. However, there are many walking activities you can do that will get the job done. Just simply walking while swinging your arms will get your heart pumping and create an aerobic activity. You could also vacuum your house more intensity, push mow the lawn at a brisk pace, or put a little more pep in your step while walking the dog.   2. Lowers Risk of Disease-  A regular walking schedule can reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes by 60%. You are also 20% less likely to develop cancers of the colon, breast or womb if you walk on a regular basis.
  3. The Calorie Burn- We all know what burning calories causes. Weight Loss! Walking 2 miles per hour for 30 minutes will burn 75 calories. Picking up the pace to 3 miles per hour will burn 99 calories, and 4 miles per hour will burn 150 calories.
  4. Boost Vitamin D- The sun is a great source of Vitamin D. So walking outside on a sunny day will not only improve your health but also increase your Vitamin DVitamin D will make your bones stronger and strengthen your immune system.
